Boy, 6, hosted his own bake sale to raise hundreds for London Air Ambulance
A six-year-old boy has helped raise vital funds for the London Air Ambulance (LAA) charity by setting up his own cake stand. By baking the treats himself and collecting donations from his neighbours, he was able to raise £300 for the charity. Griffin Evans, 6, wanted to help the LAA after seeing it fly over his house in East London.
Griffin’s father, who was a paramedic with the London Ambulance Service for 12 years, was also an inspiration to his charity work. He gave Griffin information about the air ambulance’s advanced trauma team, helicopter, and rapid response cars. On March 5, the boy from Tower Hamlets held his bake sale under a gazebo – it was raining and windy, but the schoolboy persevered.
Despite only having a goal of £100, Griffin tripled that figure and ended up raising £300. Her mum, Rachael, said: ‘We see the London Air Ambulance flying over our house quite often. Griffin really wanted to do something to help, so we decided to have a bake sale.”

She added, “We borrowed tables from our church and everyone got together. I posted on our community Facebook group and many people were there to support Griffin and the London Air Ambulance Charity.
“Griffin was delighted with the T-shirts and the support he received from the charity. Other children also wanted to get involved – our 17-year-old neighbor got up very early in the morning to cook for the et al “.
Griffin first came up with the idea to raise money for charity during a school council meeting and all the money raised was donated to LAAS and will help them save lives across the capital. Her parents described the bake sale as a “great day for the community” and thanked everyone who showed up to support her efforts.
Charity London Air Ambulance congratulated Griffin, from Mile End, and said: ‘Griffin has raised an incredible £300 for us. We are so grateful to Griffin for his fundraising efforts and hope he managed to save a cake or two for himself!
