Ferring Pharma to set up mesalazine manufacturing plant in Hyderabad

The French multinational Schneider Electric and the Swiss company Ferring Pharma have announced the expansion of their activities in India.

Schneider Electric, an energy management and automation company with operations in more than 100 countries, has announced that it will set up its second manufacturing plant in Hyderabad. The company would manufacture circuit breakers, connectors and switches for power management and automation products from its new factory.

“Companies like Schneider Electric will play a crucial role in meeting the energy management and automation needs of our industries and factories,” Telangana IT and Industry Minister KT Rama Rao said. .

While doubling its capacity with its second manufacturing plant in Telangana, the French company would help create around 1,000 jobs.

Formulation unit

Ferring Pharma has announced that it will set up another formulation unit in Hyderabad for the manufacture of its product PENTASA (Mesalazine). It will invest approximately 60 million euros over the next 2 to 3 years in this manufacturing plant.

He said PENTASA was used for the treatment and long-term management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. It is prescribed to treat mild to moderate symptoms of active IBD, as well as widely used as maintenance therapy to reduce the risk of recurrent attacks. PENTASA is available orally as tablets and granules (sachets) in Europe and the rest of the world except the United States. In the United States, Shire US sells PENTASA under a trademark license from Ferring.

Ferring produces the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) mesalazine at two of its manufacturing facilities in Denmark and India (near Mumbai).

World Economic Forum

The two companies made the announcements on the sidelines of the 2022 World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland) on Wednesday.

A Ferring delegation led by Alessandro Gilio, Executive Vice President and Chief Manufacturing and Sourcing Officer, met here with the Telangana State Government delegation.
