French Open 2022 – Novak Djokovic storms Aljaz Bedene to set up Diego Schwartzman’s fourth-round showdown

Novak Djokovic advanced to the French Open fourth round after a convincing 6-3 6-3 6-2 win over Aljaz Bedene.

Djokovic picked up straight wins over Yoshihito Nishioka and Alex Molcan en route to the third round and again he was unfazed by Bedene.

The world number one applied pressure from the start, but Bedene managed to save five break points to hold his serve.

It was until game six when Djokovic took a 4-2 lead after Bedene fired a vicious forehand into the net. Djokovic held his next two service games to seal the set.

Bedene continued to fight hard in the second set chasing his first break of the game, but allowed Djokovic to go 3-1 up after netting a reverse forehand.

The top seed continued to hold her service games and pull her opponent down the court without facing a single break point in the second set.

Bedene’s confidence was further challenged when he lost the set on his own serve as Djokovic picked up four points in a row.

Djokovic was forced to save a break point in the opener of the third but quickly saved it with a smash at the net and held his serve.

Bedene’s number of unforced errors kept rising and Djokovic effectively secured a triple break point at 2-1. A sharp backhand from Bedene in the trams was enough to convert him.

It turned out to be a ruthless serving masterclass from Djokovic, but he ended the match on Bedene’s serve. Bedene hit a soft forehand into the net to give Djokovic the win.
