Prime Minister Shmyhal and French Senate President Larcher discuss Ukraine’s role in European energy and food security

Support for Ukraine, energy and food security in Europe and in the world were discussed during a meeting in Kyiv between Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Gérard Larcher, President of the French Senate.

It should be noted that the head of government thanked the French side for the support it provides to the country in all areas: from the supply of arms, technologies and military training to financial, humanitarian and penalties.

“It is important that we are all on the same side. Besides the military component, an essential tool to deter Russia is the policy of sanctions. Grateful to France for having supported the six packages. It is necessary to apply the se -so-called secondary sanctions so that Russia cannot adapt. Sanctions packages must be constantly intensified, so we are waiting for the next one, the seventh package, ”stressed Denys Shmyhal.





Ukraine’s prime minister pointed out that Russia continues to blackmail European countries with hybrid weapons like gas and oil. At the same time, the Prime Minister added, Ukraine has one of the largest underground natural gas storages in Europe.

“I am convinced that we can find a synergy for the use of our gas transmission system and our storage facilities to increase the transit volume for European countries”, declared the head of government.

Denys Shmyhal pointed out that Ukraine is already part of the European energy market ENTSO-E and already exports the first 100 MW of electricity within its framework.

“Ukraine is capable of supplying about 2,000 MW of electricity. This is quite a powerful part of the electricity that we can supply to the European Union, guaranteeing the stability of the European energy system,” Prime Minister noted. minister.

Denys Shmyhal and Gérard Larcher also spoke about Ukraine’s needs to unblock its seaports. The head of government stressed the importance of letting African and Asian countries know that the so-called food crisis is a consequence of the blocking of Ukrainian ports by Russia, but not of sanctions against the Russian Federation, because Russian propaganda is trying to distort the truth.

“Europe must be extremely consolidated – only in this way will it be possible to withstand the hybrid impact of the Russian Federation”, stressed the Prime Minister.

Denys Shmyhal thanked France for its support for reforms in Ukraine. In particular, he noted that the decentralization reform was 100% justified, especially during the war: “Most community leaders, city leaders have shown power and determination in the territories that were occupied, which are in the first line. They stay with their communities, supporting people. Their role is growing every year. Decentralization is a reform that helps to unite Ukraine.

The President of the French Senate expressed his admiration and solidarity with the Ukrainian people who are resisting the aggressor. He assured that France would stand alongside Ukraine on the road to EU membership.
