The Ministry of the Interior chooses IDEMIA and Sopra Steria to develop a new standard border control system
COURBEVOIE, France – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – The CCAF is an ambitious project aimed at setting up an efficient standard system so that all border control activities can be properly coordinated and harmonized. It will be deployed in France during 2021.
While ensuring the underlying need for security and precision in border controls, the development of CCAF will also focus on interoperability and scalability. It will be designed in such a way that it can cope with future French and European regulatory changes and the growth in passenger traffic to and from mainland France and overseas.
Supported by biometric recognition, the system will minimize the time spent by travelers passing border controls without having to hire additional guards at French borders.
IDEMIA and Sopra Steria are joining forces by drawing on their expertise in identity management, particularly in border security, and on their expertise in critical French systems.
The CCAF project presents many challenges, including the need to take into account high flexibility and responsiveness when developing EU IT systems for upcoming world sporting events such as the 2023 Rugby World Cup and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With this joint project, the ministry has placed its trust in the consortium’s skills and expertise to meet very demanding commercial, technological and regulatory needs within tight deadlines.
“We are very grateful to the French Ministry of the Interior for placing their trust in our know-how and expertise in automated border controls. The CCAF project aims to develop and perfect a standardized and robust border system, both smoother and more secure. With our partner Sopra Steria, we are committed to providing a revolutionary system that offers a high level of safety and an improved travel experience. noted Pascal Fallet, IDEMIA Senior VP Europe, Public Security and Identity.
“After serving the Interior Ministry for many years, we are extremely proud to have been selected with our partner IDEMIA to develop and deploy the new standard border control system. IDEMIA’s skills and know-how as a global leader in biometrics fit perfectly with our own skills as a renowned government systems integrator in complex environments. This will be a great asset to ensure the success of the project. In collaboration with IDEMIA, we are committed to developing a reliable and secure system that provides the required quality of service over the long term by using all the advanced technologies required. ” noted Georges Wakim, Security Market Director Sopra Steria.
In France, IDEMIA is currently in charge of the automated system for monitoring passenger border controls and the data processing system for visa and asylum applications. IDEMIA also regularly conducts pilot tests with various parts of the private and public sector, including Paris Airports (Groupe ADP), Air France and recently Lyon airports (MONA by Vinci Airports) with a view to biometrics improving the experience of airport passengers.
At the same time, Sopra Steria is frequently at the service of the French Ministry of the Interior, carrying out numerous renowned projects. For example, the Group contributes to the development of the Schengen border system in collaboration with various other EU Member States, develops and provides security file search applications for French police forces and works to improve French road safety and the management of foreign migrants.
Last June, IDEMIA and Sopra Steria were chosen by the European agency eu-LISA to develop the new shared biometric correspondence system (sBMS), on which the security of the borders of the Schengen area is based.
